Youth impress in contest

A RECEPTIVE audience of Lions Club members, parents and teachers listened in awe as four students delivered their speeches in the recent Gympie South Lions' Youth of the Year competition.

Jasmine Colley, of St Patrick's College; David Gresham, of Gympie State High; and Oscar Tollner and Lucy Raets-McSadgen, both of James Nash State High, responded to two impromptu questions and all gave a five-minute prepared speech each.

The students were interviewed during the day with the final judging at a dinner at the Gympie RSL Orchid Room.

The winner was Jasmine Colley, who will compete at the regional level on Saturday. The public speaking category winner was Lucy Raets-McSadgen.

Competition judges were chairman Mal Stead, Teresa Cobb and Jeff Rendell.
