Younger women and breast cancer

WOMEN under 50 years or those with young children who have been diagnosed with breast cancer are encouraged to attend a free information session at Gympie.

The session will be presented by McGrath breast care nurse Sharon Shelford and include discussion on issues that affect women in this age group and at this young family life stage.

Ms Shelford said about 24 per cent of all women diagnosed with breast cancer were under the age of 50.

“We know that younger women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer may experience a different range of issues compared to women over 50,” Ms Shefford said.

The session will include a discussion on the feasibility of establishing a younger women’s support group within the Cooloola region.

Venue is Gympie Women’s Health Centre, Alfred Street on February 26, from 10am-midday. RSVP by February 23 by calling 5483 6588. For info, contact Sharon Shelford 5489 8426.
