Young worker tells of sexual attacks by Nando's colleagues

A YOUNG woman who claims male restaurant co-workers pressed up against her, pinched her on the bottom and touched her breasts has told how she dreaded going to work.

The 21-year-old, who worked at Nando's Chermside and Nando's Strathpine in 2014-15, said her repeated complaints to a manager were ignored.

"I was absolutely beside myself, in complete shock when it first occurred," she told The Sunday Mail.

Employment advocate Linda Carlson claims in documents filed in Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal that while the woman worked at Nando's Chermside, fellow employee, Ram Singh, would frequently press his genitals against her.

"I dreaded going to work. Never in my life had I endured anything like this," she said.

Singh allegedly made lewd, suggestive, unwelcome sexual comments to her and each time she would tell him his behaviour was inappropriate and unwelcome.

Ms Carlson said in tribunal documents that when the then 19-year-old complained to a manager, he told her he would "deal with it''.

She said after some months another employee, Harwinder Singh Gohal, known to the female worker as Harry, allegedly began sexually harassing her.

Before the case was transferred to the tribunal, an ADCQ delegate accepted the young woman had made numerous complaints throughout her employment.

The woman's sexual harassment claim is against Harwinder Gohal, Ram Singh and former Chermside and Strathpine Nando's franchise owners Sanjay Kumar and Sirichand Jhanbia and their company.

Mr Jhanbia said none of the allegations were proven and would be defended.
