Mary Valley Stags out run by Noosa Pirates

THE MARY Valley Stags played the Noosa Pirates to kick off Saturday's five game day at Jack Stokes.

The Mary Valley Stags fell to the Noosa Pirates 36-6.

The young Stags were keen to get on the paddock for their first game of the season in the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League division two competition

The second division this year hosts 15 teams and is the biggest competition in the Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby Football League.

The players started well and held their own in the first half, going into the break only one try down at 6-12.

In the second half the Stags showed their inexperience, with holes appearing in the back line and the Pirates' seasoned players soon took advantage, scoring several out wide.

The heat also took its toll on all the players, leaving the final score at 36-6 to the Pirates.

The Stags only try went to Henry Maudsley, converted by Tom Wheeler.

Players Player went to Tom Wheeler for outstanding defence, saving many tries and playing it safe with the high balls.

This year sees the end of the C-grade division, with all previous C-grade teams being placed in the division 2 competition. This is a step up for most of the clubs.

Next week's game for the Stags will be played at Caloundra at 1pm against Kawana.
