Young picker dies in the field

A YOUNG female backpacker has died while picking tomatoes on a Farnsfield Road farm, near Childers, yesterday afternoon.

Bundaberg Police were called just before 2pm yesterday.

Bundaberg Police Sergeant Michael Prickett said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 24-year-old German woman’s death.

The cause of death is not yet known, and a post-mortem examination would be conducted, Sgt Prickett said.

CPR was being performed on the woman when Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics arrived at the farm.

The woman could not be revived, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sgt Prickett said police were notifying the German consulate to contact the woman’s family.
