Gympie set to celebrate

WITH so much going on in the Gympie region this festive season, there is a stack of fun in store for everyone from tomorrow night right through to New Year's Day.

Whether you do it in style or just enjoy a memorable time with your loved ones, there is no need to leave Gympie to see in 2012.

Planning to spend some quality time with your family, a romantic evening with your spouse, or a night dancing with friends?

Whatever the mood takes you, there are plenty of specials being held to help you ring in 2012 memorably.

From top-notch dining or a free Family Fun Day in the park on New Year's Eve, with fireworks and show rides, to a simple glass of bubbly with a small group of friends or a pub crawl taking in all the amazing musical talent this town has to offer - there are many ways to celebrate in Gympie.

 

FRIDAY NIGHT:

THE ROYAL: Two Jam Duo gets the weekend started at The Royal then DJALN sees the night through to closing time.

GYMPIE RSL: Solo entertainer Bazza will get the crowd going in the Members Lounge from 7.30pm.

BILLY'S: Moulin Rouge dress-up party with all-girl band Legless delivers rock with an edge from 9pm.

FREEMASONS: Andrew Weller entertains in the Irish Bar from 7.30.

NEW YEAR'S EVE

FAMILY FUN NIGHT: Free kids' rides and entertainment, live music on the Sound Shell stage, DJ and fireworks at Nelson Reserve, 6 to 9.

THE ROYAL: See the new year in wearing boardies, bikinis and thongs at The Royal's Beach Party with DJ Glenno from 8. Giveaways and prizes throughout the night for best dressed. Free floral lei at the door.

GYMPIE RSL: Split Nickle 9 opens to 2am.

BILLY'S: Op Shop Retro Ball with party band Meridian from 9.30 extended hours, cover charge of $10 after 10.

FREEMASONS: Lee Turner and Friends band jazz up the Irish Bar from 8 to late.

EMPIRE HOTEL: Karaoke plus a DJ to spin all the latest dance tracks in the public bar from 9 to 2.

LAKE COOTHARABA: The Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club is hosting a New Year's Eve street party beginning with a street parade along the foreshore at Boreen Point at about 5.30pm. Face painting will be available for children from about 4.30pm. Live music until late.
