Workshop tackles weeds

SPRING has sprung, the grass is riz - the opening lines from a poem by that well-known author 'anonymous' entitled The Bronx Spring indicate that it is time to start planning what to do in the garden.

There have been some good falls of rain and the day and night temperatures are moving upwards.

To help with your thoughts on what to do in the garden, Gympie and District Landcare is holding a free workshop from 9.30am-noon this Sunday.

Workshop leaders are well-known and knowledgeable local botanist Ernie Rider (DERM) and Martin Hickey from Cedar Glen Nursery.

Issues to be addressed will deal mainly with the choice of native species that will not become environmental problems in the future.

Many of our worst environmental weeds have been garden escapees and how to ID those and native species that can be planted instead will be a workshop focus.

The poem continues - (in a broad Bronx accent) - I wonder where dem boides is.

Da little boids is on da wing,

ain't dat absoid,

da little wings are on da boid.
