Woman faces court over stabbing

A WOMAN is in hospital and another will front court on Valentine's Day after a family argument ended with an alleged stabbing at Targinnie yesterday morning.

Gladstone Police Sergeant Adam Tetley said a woman, 53, was allegedly stabbed in the shoulder and back three times with a kitchen knife by another woman, 34.

It is believed there was an argument between the pair about 5am.

Sgt Tetley said police were called to the property, stating they were told a woman had been stabbed.

He said the stabbed woman was transported to Gladstone hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the time of going to print, the woman was in a stable condition in hospital.

Sgt Tetley said the incident had been a shock to the Targinnie community.

"Targinnie is a quiet community," he said.

"I wouldn't go and say this sort of thing happens often.

"Last time we were (at Targinnie) was early last year."

The 34-year-old woman was yesterday charged with offences stemming from the incident and was last night in police custody.

She is expected to face Gladstone Magistrate's Court on February 14.
