Woman rammed into watery ditch in highway smash

A WOMAN was lucky not to be injured today when a truck smashed into the back of her car, pushing it into a pit of water.

The woman, who was driving a blue Toyota hatchback was rammed into a ditch full of water when the truck hit her as she tried to turn off the Bruce Hwy onto Wechsels Rd near Childers.

Childers Police Senior Constable Donna Gay said the woman phoned police to say she was in the water and did not know how deep it was or what to do because she was not a very strong swimmer.

The incident caused traffic delays on the highway but the road was finally cleared about noon, three hours after the crash.

No one has been charged in relation to the smash.

Police investigations are continuing and anyone with information is urged to phone Childers Police on 4192 1444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Motorists are urged to drive with caution, especially in the current wet weather.
