Woman punched in the head during phone robbery

A woman has been punched to the back of the head during an attempted phone robbery last night.

Police say around 6:45pm an 18-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl were walking along McGuigan street, Earlville, when a man approached the pair.

He allegedly grabbed the woman's mobile phone from her back pocket.

Police say she was thrown to the ground when she tried to retrieve the phone.

The man then allegedly punched her to the back of the head when she was able to recover her phone.

The man reportedly fled on foot towards Mulgrave Road.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, in his 20's, around 175cm tall, proportionate build with acne scaring on both sides of his cheeks.

He was wearing a grey baggy t-shirt, black shorts above his knees, black hat and black slip on shoes.

Police are still investigating.
