Woman, 76, bitten by snake in Koongal

A ROCKHAMPTON woman, 76, was taken to hospital this morning after she was bitten by a snake on Cooper St in Koongal.

A spokesperson from Queensland Ambulance said they were called to attend at 9.55am and found the woman conscious and breathing.

A first aid kit had been used and a bandage applied to the area before ambulance officers arrived.

It's just days after Rockhampton snake catcher Wayne Cameron was killed by a Taipan bite.

Mr Cameron was on a job catching a Coastal Taipan on Sunday, one of the world's deadliest snakes, when he was bitten. It is understood he was taken to Rockhampton Hospital however he later died.

His funeral is on Monday.

More to come.
