Winter on the march

THE Gympie region continued to shiver as dawn broke yesterday, with minimum temperatures even lower than those recorded on Wednesday.

Despite predictions of slightly warmer but still frigid conditions, the sun rose yesterday on a Gympie minimum of 0.2 degrees, colder than the Wednesday start at 0.9 degrees.

Gympie's minimum yesterday was recorded at 5.33am, with conditions again varying markedly from more moderate coastal temperatures to extreme minimums inland.

Double Island Point recorded an early minimum of 11.7 degrees at 2.17am, and began warming up to 16.8 degrees at 1.21pm.

Gympie reached 19.6 degrees at 1.36pm, and quickly began to cool off.

Toolara recorded temperatures from 7.2 degrees to 18.6 degrees. Further west at Kingaroy, temperatures ranged from a freezing minus 2.3 degrees at 4.14am to 16.5 degrees at 12.55pm.

However, the moderating coastal influences were not so strong elsewhere with Hervey Bay (4.2 degrees up to 18.6 degrees) and Tewantin (5.2 to 19.7 degrees), recording much cooler official temperatures than those recorded at the Cooloola Coast.
