Winners are grinners

THE old saying is true - winners are definitely grinners and Leon Hoffman proved that on Wednesday when he set eyes on his new ride-on mower.

With luck on his side, Mr Hoffman won a John Deere worth $3300 after collecting six tokens from The Gympie Times.

Mr Hoffman has a 20-acre hobby farm at Cedar Pocket and put the mower to good use for the first time yesterday.

The Gympie Times' Deb Rowlands was the one to tell to Mr Hoffman he was the winner.

“I had been working and there was a message on the answering machine...Deb's voice came on saying congratulations you've won. It was great,” he said.

Mr Hoffman said he had always wanted a John Deere ride-on and was chuffed with the win. The competition ran from July to September – just in time to spruce the garden up for Spring.

Hi-Way1 Truck and Tractor employee Tod Fleming said the JD LA105 series ride-on had a cup holder and would cut 104cm at a time.

“John Deere is the leader in the industry. Nothing runs like a Deere,” he said.

The LA 100 series has an economical 5-speed manual transmission and 19.5 horsepower engine.
