Treasurer didn't provide specific answer on privatising GPC

THEY'RE not saying they will, but they're also not saying they won't. That's the scenario with the privatisation of the Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Whispers are circulating around the state about which public assets the LNP government might sell off after the next election.

The Observer yesterday asked Treasurer Tim Nichols if he could rule out privatising GPC.

A spokesperson for the treasurer did not provide a specific answer.

"The government has made no decisions regarding the sale of government businesses," he said.

Independent member for Gladstone Liz Cunningham plans to raise the topic in parliament today.

Mrs Cunningham is strongly opposed to privatisation of GPC and said the majority of her community would disapprove.

The government has never mentioned the idea of selling GPC, so it is still a distant possibility.

However Mrs Cunningham said she was concerned the option might be considered.
