Wilcox a true all-rounder
MAKING three Wide Bay representative teams for three different sports was enough for Gympie athlete Jessica Wilcox to take out October's Gympie sport star of the month.
A hockey star first and foremost, Wilcox has worn the black, red and white of Wide Bay for not only hockey but also cricket and triathlon.
Her representative achievements in 2016, particularly with cricket, are paving the way for other young women in the sport.
The James Nash Year 7 student says that despite her achievements in triathlon and cricket, hockey is where she wants to make her mark.
"It would be nice to make the state (hockey) team,” she said.
"Maybe even Australia.”
In other Sunshine Coast Sports Federation news, Sunshine Coast hockey star Ashlea Fey has been named October's winner after the 24-year-old defender has been selected to make her debut for the Hockeyroos against New Zealand in Auckland next week, before backing up for the International Festival of Hockey in Melbourne.
