Wiggins out to win despite being chosen as support rider

TOUR de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins will be just another cog in the Team Sky wheel in this year's classic - and he isn't happy.

Team principal Dave Brailsford yesteday reiterated the plan that the defending champion would be a support rider to teammate Chris Froome when his year's event starts on June 29.

"... we will go to the Tour with one leader. Given Chris' step up in performances this year, our plan, as it has been since January, is to have him lead the Tour de France team," Brailsford said.

Froome has been in outstanding form this season, winning the Tour of Oman, Criterium International and Tour de Romandie in an impressive run that has mirrored Wiggins' build up, and form, of last year.

While Team Sky's season has been based on Froome being the No.1 man, Wiggins muddied the waters last week by declaring he wanted to win the double - the Giro and the Tour de France.

"It may be that Chris is the leader, but that doesn't mean I am going to sit on the front for 200km and lose half-an-hour," he said.

"We both want to win the race and are both incredibly competitive."
