Wife of Thredbo survivor Stuart Diver dies of breast cancer

THE wife of Thredbo landslide survivor Stuart Diver has died after battling cancer for a decade.

Mr Diver is grappling with the loss of Rosanna Diver, 40, who was diagnosed with the ultimately terminal disease just weeks after their wedding in 2002.

The cancer went into remission soon after.

At the time, Mr Diver told of how Rosanna guided him through the trauma that followed the death of his wife Sally, who perished with 17 others in the August 1997 disaster.

Mr Diver became part of the Australian consciousness after spending 67 hours trapped in debris and snow before being rescued.

The McGrath Foundation has paid tribute to Mr Diver and those who knew Rosanna.

In his memoir Survival, "I'd see Rosanna Cossettini now and then at the pub or walking around the village.

"We would chat but I never thought it would really amount to anything.

"I figured she was way too good to go out with a rogue like me."

He said he felt that his late wife Sally, wanted him to be happy.

"With Rosanna, I found myself again."

Rosanna's funeral will be held on Friday.
