Wife has part to play for Ross

SEMI-finals football or the birth of his first child - Ben Ross has some thinking to do between now and September.

As he prepares to make his return to the Cronulla Sharks fold, the 31-year-old prop has revealed his wife, Renai, is three-and-a-half months pregnant.

The Nambour Crushers product says he is ecstatic about the forthcoming addition to his family despite it presenting him with the mother-of-all scheduling conflicts.

The child is due in September, right in the middle of the NRL post-season.

Ross said he was determined to see the Sharks qualify for the top eight and acknowledged he had some hard choices to make between now and semi-finals time.

"It's a little bit scary," Ross told the Daily yesterday.

"It was the first thing she (Renai) said to me. She said, 'If I'm having a baby and you're playing a semi-final, what's going to happen?' I chose not to answer that."

Following a two-year stint with the Rabbitohs, Ross will make his return to Sharks colours against the Tigers on Sunday.

Despite coming off a long-term neck injury and entering the tail end of his career, he said returning to the Origin arena was at the back of his mind.

"Everyone has that aspiration of playing Origin football," he said.

"I think if I play good enough football and there's a spot there, hopefully I'll get that chance again."
