Wide Bay reps training hard

A SPECIAL training session at the weekend with Sunshine Coast goal keeper Keith Dickinson has sharpened the skills of six Gympie players to have recently gained places on the Wide Bay School Boys hockey side.

The Gympie representative players to take advantage of the training in Gympie included Jordan Warhurst, Joey Collins, Drew Wenzel, Clancy Adams, Patrick Barnes and Nathan Stephens.

Gympie Hockey publicity officer Desli Adams said the session was of particular help for Gympie’s goalies.

“Keith generously donated his time and expertise together with his electric ball machine to train the two Gympie goal keepers in the team,” she said.

The training session was a timely addition to the Wide Bay side’s ongoing preparations ahead of the state titles in Townsville in three weeks.

The Gympie boys also hit the training paddock with their Wide Bay teammates in Bundaberg on Monday for three hours with another two training runs planned before state competition.

“Most of these boys also play in the local A Grade men’s team as well as the local men’s social competition during the week, giving them experience against adult players,” Adams said.

Having six players chosen for Wide Bay is one of Gympie Hockey’s best results in recent years.
