Whincup hopes for win

SERIES leader Jamie Whincup hopes to celebrate his 250th appearance in V8 Supercars competition with a win at Phillip Island on Sunday.

Whincup has a great record at the iconic circuit, finishing in the top three in eight of the last nine races.

"I always enjoy Phillip Island. It's one of the best tracks in the country," he said.

"I've had some good wins there, but we've also had some ups and downs in the past. Hopefully we can keep it on the upside this weekend."

While Whincup, Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom have dominated the podium in 2012, Craig Lowndes has definitely had more than his share of bad luck.

But with eight wins to his credit at the track, Lowndes said hopefully this weekend would bring a change of fortunes.

"I'm hoping to put my championship aspirations back on track this weekend. It's a circuit I've had great success at ... it's truly a driver's track," Lowndes said.

Saturday will feature a 32-lap race (140km) and Sunday will be 45 laps (200km).
