Weather a hold-up for hwy upgrade

WET weather may now be the only real hold-up for work to improve the safety of the Bruce Highway-Traveston Road intersection, Gympie Regional Council has been told.

Council’s Works and Services Committee this week formally received written advice from the Department of Transport and Main Roads about recently started work to improve safety and visibility at the intersection.

Advice from the department says “the project involves earthworks to improve visibility and resurfacing the intersection and approach curves to provide motorists with safer and smoother travelling conditions.” The work will proceed day and night and will involve closing some lanes at various times, with speed reductions and is expected to be completed later this year “weather permitting,” the letter says.
