Weekend full of flavour

FRESH, flavoursome and fantastic – Gympie’s very first Flavourfest was enjoyed by hundreds of fine food lovers on the weekend.

Michelle Agnew from Apple Event Management said the inaugural event was fabulous.

Celebrity chefs Ben O’Donoghue, Matt Golinski and Rita Macali engaged Flavourfest visitors with their delicious cooking demonstrations featuring products sourced from the Gympie region.

Both Ben and Matt used Cherax redclaw and pomello from Golden Vale Citrus to create their Thai-inspired dishes, while Rita whipped up home-made sausages with gnocchi.

Gympie cake decorator Tim Drury from MiCakes displayed plenty of showmanship with his demonstration.

People were keen to buy products on display and several exhibitors sold out.

“Exhibitors couldn’t believe how much they sold and visitors were amazed at the array of products on offer,” Mrs Agnew said.

“People were very interested to see what’s grown on their doorstep.”

Saturday night’s Flavourfeast was also a success, with around 150 people enjoying the four-course gourmet meal created by Gympie chefs.
