OUR SAY: We want a fair go from the Budget
THE Federal Budget will be brought down tonight and though we have all been prepped by the Treasurer to expect a "responsible" budget, our local civic leaders have pointed out that the document needs to meet its responsibilities to the regions.
Giving us safer timber bridges on our country roads would be a good start.
The Running Creek Bridge at Woolooga has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons lately and will it take a death to get the money for an upgrade that it so clearly needs?
Let us hope not.
Sadly, it is not the only country bridge that is a danger to local drivers.
Also up for grabs is the funding to develop the vacant building at the Gympie TAFE campus which the State Government is stubbornly refusing to release.
Is there a genuine reason? None has been offered so far, so it is hard to not come to the conclusion that it is nothing more than bloody mindedness.
Not a very productive attitude when dealing with a region that has high unemployment and where one in six of our public Year 10 students are failing to graduate from Year 12.
It is time to give us a fair go.
