Wallabies catch a wave with kids

WALLABIES duo Berrick Barnes and Lachie Turner took to the waves of Lennox Head yesterday morning as they enjoyed some down time ahead of Australia's spring tour to Europe.

The pair were put through their paces by Lennox-Ballina Boardriders juniors at Lennox Point.

Both men are no strangers to the area, having attended a number of junior and senior rugby training sessions with the Lennox Head Trojans over the years.

Barnes spent time in the coastal town in July to prepare for the World Cup after a series of concussions ended his Super 15 season prematurely.

He trained with Trojans player and former Waratahs assistant coach Scott Wisemantel.

He also spent time with strength and conditioning coach Peter Roberts at the Lake Ainsworth Sport and Rec Centre.

Barnes scored a try and was close to the best on the field when the Wallabies defeated Wales 21-18 to claim the Rugby World Cup bronze medal in New Zealand.

Turner was set to star for the Trojans in the Byron Bay Sevens last month before he received a late call-up to the Australian World Cup squad replacing injured winger Drew Mitchell.
