MP Walker officially sworn in as state's new Arts Minister

QUEENSLAND MPS moving up the ranks following a minor cabinet reshuffle have been officially sworn in to their new positions.

Mansfield MP Ian Walker officially took on the title of Arts, IT, Science and Innovation Minister on Wednesday at Government House following MP Ros Bates' resignation last week.

Mr Walker, a former lawyer, left his post as Assistant Minister for Planning Reform, which Southport MP Rob Molhoek took over.

Mount Ommaney MP Tarnya Smith has been appointed Assistant Minister for Child Safety.

Queensland Governor Penelope Wensley welcomed the politicians into their new roles at an early morning ceremony in Brisbane.

It is not the first time LNP members have attended such ceremonies since coming to power due to ministerial resignations.

Gympie MP David Gibson resigned as Police Minister last April following an unpaid speeding fine.

Bundaberg MP and former police officer Jack Dempsey took over those reigns.

Following Bruce Flegg's resignation as Housing and Public Works Minister, Everton MP Tim Mander stepped into the role late last year.
