Voters pick Ashleigh as Jupiters Summer Surf Girl
RAINBOW Beach Summer Surf Girl entrant Ashleigh Dodt has taken out the Facebook People's Choice award in the Jupiters Summer Surf Girl quest.
Nineteen-year-old Ashleigh has spent the past 12 months fundraising as an ambassador for surf lifesaving.
She and her family will this weekend attend the gala Summer Surf Girl ball at Jupiters Hotel and Casino on the Gold Coast, where the final judging in the Summer Surf Girl quest will be done.
The quest is an annual awareness program for surf lifesaving clubs and branches throughout Queensland.
Its organisers recently ran a Vote For Your Favourite Jupiters Summer Surf Girl competition on Facebook, and Ashleigh drew more than 750 votes to top the poll.
A full-time uni student studying occupational therapy, Ashleigh is the first Gympie region entrant in the quest in 14 years
"As part of my journey through the Jupiters Summer Surf Girl program I have run fundraisers, such as the golf day on March 25, and raffles, participated in the leadership teams of multiple branch and state youth development programs, participated in community events such as the Gympie Muster as well as Surf Life Saving Queensland flying me to Townsville to talk to children in rural communities about beach safety and our role as surf lifesavers," she said.
The Surf Girl program has been running since 1964, and has raised more than $12.5 million for surf clubs in Queensland.
