Voters dissatisfied with Newman up 10%

THE Newman Government's popularity has nosedived following a rollercoaster first nine months of tough fiscal measures.

But the LNP would still hold on to power at an election as new polling shows it would retain 56% of votes to Labor's 44% on a two-party-preferred basis.

The Newspoll compiled for News Limited shows the proportion of voters dissatisfied with Premier Campbell Newman's performance between October and December increased by 10% from July-September.

The poll, published in The Australian, showed voter dissatisfaction sat at 48% while voter satisfaction with Mr Newman's actions dropped from 47% in the July-September to 38% during the most recent polling period.

But the LNP holds onto 42% of the primary vote with Labor off in the distance with 31%.

The Katter Australia Party has picked up 3% of votes, rising to 4% support.

The regionally-popular party was thrust into the spotlight recently when it took on LNP defector and Condamine MP Ray Hopper.

Fellow LNP deserter and billionaire Clive Palmer also fuelled speculation he would join forces with the Katter Party to create a unified political party.

He has since dampened those aspirations after revealing a Palmer-led party would not have sufficient voter support.

The Newspoll also showed voters still backed Mr Newman as a better premier over Opposition leader Annastacia Palaszczuk, who is supported 29% compared to Mr Newman's 45%.

The latest political poll comes as Mr Newman and his government draw 2012 to a close after nine months of hotly debated moves.

This included plans to cull of 14,000 public servant positions, the axing of numerous services and controversial legislative amendments, including changing same-sex civil union laws.
