Competition organiser Alan Foreman said even at this early stage, there has been a "great response" from the community.

"We used to have a garden competition and now it's been resurrected as part of the Garden Expo.

"Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony on the Sunday of the Expo at 1.30pm.," he said.

"We wanted to get the schools involved and they can also enter in the best vegetable garden category as well as the best school garden."

Mr Foreman said the competition had attracted "great sponsors."
