Survey to enhance volunteering

VOLUNTEERS make an extraordinary contribution to Australian society.

Whether you’re already volunteering or just starting out, this is your chance to provide valuable information in a survey to further enhance the opportunities and interest of volunteering, while building Gympie’s community capacity.

Gympie and District Show Society took the opportunity to apply to the Queensland Governments “Blueprint for the Bush” to assist with funding a project to generate greater community engagement.

Show president Graham Engeman said Stage 1 of this innovative project invested in the community capacity building, from which there would be short, medium and long term benefits throughout the region.

“It is also an opportunity to gather and compile data from the survey to establish a model for the sharing of and access to the communities physical and equipment resources through the Gympie Show,” he said.

The project hopes to achieve a number of key opportunities, needs and issues, which include:

Greater engagement of larger sections of the community in volunteer activities, to contribute to planning the role that “Friends of the Show” will undertake;

The opportunity to up skill community members, thereby boosting their productivity, whilst at the same time, enabling them to connect with the community, network and build relationships.

The launch of the volunteer survey at the show is appropriately suited as the National Volunteers Week includes the three days of this year’s Show.

This year at the Show there will be a Volunteers on Show site where volunteer organisations have the opportunity to display their brochures containing information about their valuable service to the community.

Please call Tanya on 0438 850 109 to organise collection of your brochures.

The survey can be completed by any individual or organisation that has an interest in raising the profile of volunteering and increasing the communities’ connectedness.

Please forward the completed survey to the project facilitator, Tanya Easterby at the Show site or post to Gympie Show Society, PO Box 478, Gympie 4570.
