VIP bar is worth the price

USUALLY reserved for performing artists and media, this was the first time tickets for the Gold Bar at Splendour in the Grass (in other words, the VIP bar) have been available to the public.

For the whopping price of $700 there are a few little luxuries for punters that are willing to splurge.

For some, it's the perfect refuge when the swelling crowds are a little too much to handle.

Punters have access to cleaner toilets with mirrors, fancier food and Supertop side-stage access where stadium seating gives an overview of the backstage antics.

On top of that, Gold pass holder's can purchase a drink with cash (no ticket required) and enjoy that drink in a bar-style setting complete with stools and high tables, jungle-themed plants, a beer garden and their own personal dj.

Given the unexpected rain, many were happy with their purchase and the undercover area sure got squishy when the hail set in.

But at the end of the day, was it really worth $700?

Steve Lordan of Perth thinks so.

Mr Lordan came over specifically for the festival with friends, saying it reminded him of big American festival like Coachella.

As a freelance journalist, he has experienced similar areas at other international festivals.

After being persuaded by his fellow festival goers to fork out the extra cash on a Gold Bar pass, he said he was glad because it made the experience so much better.

"I love it," Mr Lordan said.

"You're out of the rain and can just chill-out."

Mr Lordan said he hadn't partaken in any celebrity spotting and that he was only interested in having a place to escape the hustle and bustle.

As the gloomy weather set in, I'm sure many Gold pass holders were feeling the same.
