Vets teams ace rivals

CELEBRATIONS are continuing for the Gympie and Cooloola Veterans Tennis Association after two of its teams contesting Sunshine Coast Senior Fixtures lifted grand final victories at the weekend.

Playing Sunday in Nambour, Gympie Gold (Division 1) and Gympie Bronze (Division 3) overcame their opponents with a show of strength.

Gympie Gold defeated Hervey Bay in a whitewash 10 sets 64 games to 2 sets 37 games.

Hervey Bay struggled to match Gympie’s pace on court, crippled by solid play from both the baseline and net.

Meanwhile, Gympie Bronze defeated Coolum in a tighter battle seven sets 62 games to five sets 49 games.

Both teams played exceptionally well throughout the season to reach the finals and didn’t let the form slip when it mattered most.

The win for the Gympie Gold team was the second year in a row the title had been won.
