Vented tower a great sight

I LOVE nothing more than seeing Gympie's heritage being preserved.

Watching the vented tower hoisted back on top of the old Gympie Lands Office, now the Australian Institute of Country Music, yesterday morning was a great experience.

The building built in 1876 was originally a court house and the Mining Warden's Office.

Unfortunately, the original vented tower was removed about 40 years ago because it leaked in wet weather. At that time authorities replaced the original roof with trim deck which didn't suit the heritage structure.

Since the AICM has moved into the building it has gradually been returned to its former glory.

I would love to see more of Gympie's heritage restored like this.

It helps honour our past and attracts a few tourists as well. Top job everyone involved.
