Updated flood warning for Mary River

HEAVY rainfall is continuing in the Mary River catchment, though a slow clearance from the north is taking place.

Further heavy rainfall of 75-100mm is expected over the upper catchment during Sunday.

At present, widespread major flooding, is occurring across the catchment. Moderate to major flooding is expected at Gympie during Sunday. Major flood levels are also expected at Maryborough from late Sunday.

Upstream of Gympie:
Minor flooding and strong river rises are occurring at Moy Pocket and Dagun Pocket. Major flood levels are expected at Moy Pocket and Dagun Pocket during Sunday afternoon.

Gympie:
Moderate flood levels are rising strongly at Gympie. Major flood level (17m) is likely to be exceeded late Sunday afternoon. A peak similar to the January 2011 peak (19.45 metres), or possibly higher is likely during Monday at Gympie.

Gympie to Maryborough:
Major flooding is continuing to rise at Miva and Tiaro.

Maryborough:
Minor flood levels will continue to rise at Maryborough during Sunday, with moderate flood levels expected to be exceeded from Sunday afternoon, and major flood levels to be exceeded overnight Sunday with further rises during Monday.

Predicted River Heights/Flows:

Gympie: Exceed major flood level (17 metres) Sunday afternoon, peak at or above 19.45 metres during Monday.

Maryborough: Exceed moderate level (8 metres) Sunday afternoon. Exceed major flood level (9 metres) overnight Sunday, and continue rising during Monday.
