UPDATE: Police confirm fatal crash victim is local
A 30-year-old local woman died when the motorbike she was driving crashed near the old Bruce Highway at Kybong just before 6pm last night, Police Media have confirmed.
A Queensland Police Service statement said the woman, from Mothar Mountain, "sustained critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene" of the crash.
"Preliminary investigations suggest (the) woman was riding the motorbike with a male passenger northbound on the Old Bruce Highway around 5:45pm when they lost control and struck an embankment near Mary Valley Link Road," the statement said.
The passenger, a 38-year-old man, was taken to Gympie Hospital in a stable condition with chest and arm injuries.
Police say investigations into the crash are continuing.
UPDATE 7:25pm Police at the scene have confirmed the deceased person was a woman in her early 30's.
EARLIER: One person has been killed in a motorbike crash in Kybong, just off the Bruce Highway.
The single vehicle crash occurred on the Mary Valley Link Rd involving two people, the driver and the passenger.
Emergency services are at the scene, and are soon going to close off the exit to investigate the fatal crash.
A spokesman for the Queensland Police Service said the second passenger is being transferred to the Gympie Hospital in a stable condition.
