Unlucky trip for young mum

A CURRA woman who drove to Gympie to renew her licence the day after it expired was booked for unlicensed driving in the car park of Queensland Transport (QT).

Gympie Police District Traffic Branch officers were performing stationary computer checks on vehicles travelling on Corella Road, November 27, when they noticed the driver of a blue Toyota appeared nervous as she drove past.

They followed the vehicle and stopped it “practically in the driveway” of QT, to question the driver in relation to their suspicions.

Jessica Lee Webb, 21, told officers her licence had expired and she had driven into town that morning especially to renew it, as it had expired the day before on November 26. She told them she couldn't renew it sooner because she was broke until pay day — that day.

Officers charged Webb with unlicensed driving and she faced Gympie Magistrates Court on Thursday where Magistrate Maxine Baldwin took sympathy and fined the young mum $50.
