Two men charged with assaulting police officer

Two men have been charged with assaulting a police officer over the weekend, resulting in the officer using capsicum spray on one of the men.

The incident occurred after police intercepted the men in their vehicle on Surat Development Road in Tara, not long after midnight on Sunday, July 12.

The two men were stopped in relation to driving without a license and their vehicle being unregistered.

Sergeant Brook Flood from Tara Police confirmed the driver and passenger of the vehicle were charged with assaulting a police officer and that police were forced to use capsicum spray on one of the men.

The police officer escaped the alleged attack without injury.

The unregistered vehicle has been impounded for seven days by police.
