Twenty20 set for a big return
GYMPIE Cricket Association president Bob Blackburn has confirmed the popular Twenty20 format of the game will make a local return after Christmas.
“We are organising it now,” Blackburn said.
Actual dates are not yet available, but in the pipeline is three rounds involving four A and reserve grade teams.
“It will allow a lot of our players to get involved,” Blackburn said.
Twenty20 cricket made its debut last year and was enthusiastically embraced by the Gympie public.
A massive night Twenty20 match was held between the Gympie Gold XI and Gympie All Starts - a team comprising of players from the Gympie A Grade sides.
Plenty of big shots and crowd participation capped of a brilliant night that also raised funds for victims of the Victorian bushfire disaster.
Since introducing Twenty20 to its calendar, Gympie Cricket has led clubs across the Sunshine Coast taking up the abbreviated version of the game.
