Turf club ready for racing year

A MYRIAD of improvements will greet racegoers at the first Gympie races for 2012 at the St Patrick's Day meeting on March 17.

In addition several new sponsors will come on board to ensure that the progressive Gympie Turf Club has another great year of racing during 2012.

Advice Partners have become a major sponsor of the GTC for 2012 whilst the new members of the "100 Club" will be lending their much valued support.

In addition, Centro will be sponsoring the ever popular Fashions of the Field competition and Sullivan Livestock will be the main sponsor of March 17.

The winning post surrounds have been repaired and re-vamped with signage and advertising whilst a new back-drop and cat-walk will be provided for the Fashions of the Field. Centro will be providing a range of prizes for the various Fashions winners with all finalists becoming eligible to enter the draw for a $3000 prize at the end of 2012.

Some permanent fencing and gates have been installed creating a laneway from the horse stalls to the saddling paddock to separate horses crossing the entry road and cars. These drop in panels replace removable panels which were used previously and will improve safety for horses, cars and people.

All available marquees have already been booked for the March 17 races and a private function will be held on the upper level of the Bill Bishop building.

Main race on the day will be the Sullivan Livestock Open over 1030m on what should be a another memorable day of racing.
