Truss wants fair dinkum process

ENVIRONMENT Minister Peter Garrett must detail the rationale for his proposed new fishing exclusion zone off Fraser Island and guarantee people will be listened to in his so-called ‘fair dinkum’ consultation process, Federal Member for Wide Bay Warren Truss said today.

“No one has any confidence that consultation will be open-minded and fair,” Mr Truss said. “So far, Mr Garrett has botched this process and upset the industry by failing to provide information as to how the zone was chosen or outline how genuine consultation will occur.”

“What public information sessions will be held, how will submissions be received, what feedback will be provided, how will research be undertaken and who will undertake it, what assessments will be done, what assurances can be given that no jobs will be lost or what compensation will be paid and who would be eligible to receive it?”
