Truck driver trapped

A TRUCK driver, 29, was trapped in the cab of his B-Double for just over 90 minutes while ambulance officers, police and fire fighters tried desperately to free him yesterday.

About 1am in pouring rain, the Bundaberg driver of the north-bound Lindsay Brothers Truck ended up off the side of the Bruce Highway, rolling into a ditch at Chatsworth about 200 metres south of Horton Road.

Gympie ambulance officers treated him at the scene for back pain and possible spinal injuries after he was released from the cab about 2.45am.

He was then taken to Gympie Hospital.

His load, believed to be sweet potatoes, spewed from the truck and ended up strewn throughout the ditch.

Gympie Police said they were investigating the crash and at this stage did not know the cause.
