Anzac train makes tracks through regional Queensland

THE troop train re-enactment is gaining steam as it heads towards Brisbane.

The nine-carriage coal-powered train leaves Emerald early today with a stop in Blackwater before heading to Rockhampton.

The train will arrive at 4.10pm.

The 250 guests onboard will view a private display of photos of every Australian Victorian Cross recipient during dinner at the Frenchville Sports Club.

A wreath-laying ceremony will also be held.

On Thursday morning the passengers and crew will visit Rockhampton Barracks before leaving the city at 7.45am.

There will be a short stop in Gladstone for lunch and a memorial ceremony before the train heads for Miriam Vale at 12.30pm for a 20-minute meet and greet.

The train will arrive in Bundaberg at 2.55pm. 

The train then travels to Maryborough where it should arrive by 4.35pm.

A statue of Duncan Chapman will be revealed as part of a dawn service in the city on Friday,

Major Chapman was the first Aussie soldier to step onto the Gallipoli shore during the First World War.

Deputy PM Warren Truss will attend and will travel to the next stop, Cooroy, on the Sunshine Coast.

The train is scheduled to arrive there at 1.10pm.

A brief stop at Nambour heralds the final leg of the journey.

The train will arrive at Roma Street station in Brisbane at 4.25pm.
