Triathletes win bronze in Hervey Bay

TRIATHLON: Gympie triathletes Michelle Tappin, Michelle Perrett and Anna Cartwright travelled to Hervey Bay last Sunday in the hope of striking gold in the town's annual triathlon.

The gruelling race, including a 1500m swim, 40km bike ride and 10km run, attracts some of the top athletes in Queensland, all fighting it out to take home the prestigious honours.

The three Gympie girls individually completed separate legs in the race with Cartwright swimming, Perrett riding and Tappin running.

After coming home without a medal last year, the girls stepped up and completed the event seven minutes quicker, taking home the bronze medal.

Perrett said third place was a great result for the girls who have been training so hard this year.

"We love the sport and, hopefully, next year we can come back and go one better," she said.
