Tourism spruike for our region

GYMPIE Cooloola Tourism had a prominent presence at this month’s Caravan and Camping Show in Brisbane thanks to some additional regional tourism funding from council.

With dozens of camping areas spread across our region and only two to three hours drive from Brisbane, it was no surprise many visitors to the RNA Showgrounds knew the Gympie Region well.

Gympie Cooloola Tourism (GCT) staff and volunteers offered the public a selection of regional maps and regional holiday guides. Information about the region’s national parks was also available, along with GCT’s caravan and camping members’ brochures.

“Our abundance of beautiful green space and breathtaking natural attractions coupled with almost 80,000 camping and nature enthusiasts through the gates over seven days, made it the perfect promotional opportunity for the Gympie Region” GCT general manager Amanda LePeilbet said.

In preparation for the week-long show, GCT communications officer Simon Birks put his creative flair to work and designed a new eight-metre wide, eye-catching display featuring a three-metre wide scenic backdrop, a set of pull-up banners promoting the city, country, coast and the region’s natural attractions, along with a branded service counter.

A flat screen television added an additional audio visual element playing the region’s promotional videos and television advertisements. “GCT’s publications and the new display, which was printed by Gympie’s Starclub Copy Centre, received a lot of positive feedback, from the public and other stand holders,” Mr Birks said.

“It is great to hear favourable comments about our efforts.

“We have worked very hard over the past year to create a strong brand and this opportunity to reach out and promote our fabulous region to the Brisbane market was an extremely rewarding experience.”

GCT’s next public promotion will be at Gympie’s Careers Expo next month, followed by a 10-day promotion of the region at the Brisbane Ekka in August.
