Group offers glimpse of uni life

GYMPIE Year 12 students will be able to access the latest information about tertiary education when the 2012 Sunshine Coast University Showcase comes to Gympie on Monday.

A total of 3500 Year 12 students are expected to access the information when the 2012 Sunshine Coast University Showcase tours the region from Monday, March 5, until Tuesday, March 13.

The University of the Sunshine Coast is co-ordinating this annual event, which involves eight Queensland universities, the Sunshine Coast Institute of TAFE and Defence Force Recruiting.

USC external relations officer Macaela French said the showcase would visit 18 venues in six days, presenting to senior students from 24 schools, including from five high schools in Gympie on Monday.

"USC organises this as a community service to Sunshine Coast and Gympie students, who will benefit from having easily accessible information about degree programs, pathways to unis, admissions and study costs," she said.

Ms French said the single largest presentation would take place on March 7, involving 350 students at Mountain Creek State High School.

About 740 students from five schools will attend presentations at three venues on March 8, with 340 students at Nambour State High School and 260 at the USC Sports Stadium.

As well as attending university presentations, students will be able to chat one-on-one with USC student ambassadors about campus life.

Universities involved this year are the University of the Sunshine Coast, University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, University of Southern Queensland, Central Queensland University, Bond University and the Australian Catholic University.

The showcase will be at three venues in Gympie on Monday:

9-10am at Gympie State High School (Hamilton Hall) for 240 students from GSHS.

11.25am-12.35pm at James Nash SHS, 117 students from James Nash and Cooloola Christian College to attend

1.45-3pm at St Patrick's for 100 students from St Pat's and Victory College.
