Steketee in World Cup squad

WARWICK cricketer Mark Steketee will play in next month's ICC Under 19 World Cup in Queensland after today being named in the final 15-man squad.

Bowler Steketee will now help Australia defend its under 19 World Cup crown in his home state, with matches being played in Brisbane, Townsville and on the Sunshine Coast.

"Overall, I think we've got a squad that's pretty well balanced with good batting depth, a variety of bowling options which includes good pace bowlers and a couple of excellent developing spinners," national talent manager Greg Chappell said.

"Playing at home in Queensland will always place more of a spotlight and expectation on this team to do well in front of a home crowd and in familiar conditions, but we know this is going to be a fierce challenge against quality opposition."

Steketee and an extended 18-man squad will play Pakistan in three warm-up matches on the Gold Coast later this month.

Australia takes on old foe England in its first World Cup match on August 11 in Townsville.
