Crime: Tools stolen from builder’s trailer
A GYMPIE region builder has taken a hit after waking to find his trailer, full of tools, stolen.
Gympie police Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Gregg Davey said the trailer was taken from a Nash Rd address on Sunday night.
The fully-enclosed dual cab trailer was unattached to a vehicle when it was towed away.
However, the February 2 offence was not the only theft that evening, Snr Sgt Davey said.
On the same night, tools were also stolen from the back of a ute parked in a carport at Victory Heights.
There had recently been an increase in the number of similar thefts and he urged tradies to do what they could to prevent crimes of opportunity.
Tradies should ensure their gear was locked up as securely as possible and installing security lighting near where equipment was stored could help keep items secure.
Gear should be marked so it was identifiable and trailers should have a hitch lock to help prevent them being towed away, Snr Sgt Davey advised.
