Abbott attacks mining tax in Rocky

OPPOSITION leader Tony Abbott is campaigning in Central Queensland this morning after landing in Rockhampton overnight.

Mr Abbott began his day in the Beef Capital with a run along the Fitzroy River  bank before launching an attack on Labor's mining tax on local radio station 4RO at 6.45am.

He said the mining tax was a "terrible, terrible''  policy that would "clobber'' the nation's most productive industry and damage the Central Queensland economy.

LNP candidate for Capricornia Michelle Landry backed up Mr Abbott saying she had spoken to many concerned people across the region.

"The miners are very, very nervous,'' she said.

""People are losing their cars and homes.''

Mr Abbott is now driving to Gladstone to campaign in the marginal seat of Flynn.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard and opposition leader Tony Abbott will make a final pitch directly to voters at a people's forum in Brisbane on Wednesday evening.
