To the rescue of broken down boats

COASTGUARD volunteers were kept busy on the Cooloola Coast at the weekend, with four boat rescues between Inskip Point and Tin Can Bay and another one yesterday.

Commander Jim George said there were no dramatic rescues and all were due to mechanical failure.

Conditions were good, which encouraged plenty of water activity, and on Saturday morning a boat near Inskip and one near Carlo Point needed towing to Tin Can Bay.

A 6m fishing boat developed steering problems seven miles north of the Wide Bay Bar on Sunday and was towed to Bullock Point.

A 32-foot cruiser broke down at Pelican Bay and a little fishing boat running around in circles with no one onboard caused concern that someone may have fallen out of the boat. A 67-year-old man was found safe on the bank.
