Tin Can Bay spikes win

TIN Can Bay’s polished skills led the side to victory over rivals Woodies in the Gympie Volleyball A Grade final last week.

The grand final, the last of the season, was played at The Pavilion on Thursday night.

Tin Can Bay took out the final 3-1 (25:21, 25:17, 26:24, 25:19) and was in formidable form, dropping just a single set in their only blunder of the match.

Members of the Tin Can Bay outfit included Luke Pennisi, Bronson Purnell, Daniel McAuliffe, Harry Long, Darren Cross, Jake Parson and Dave Arthur.

Tin Can Bay raced off to an early lead, claiming the first two sets with tight margins, before Woodies managed to keep the clash alive in the third, bagging the set 26-24.

Dropping the third set was only a minor mishap for Tin Can Bay before lifting their intensity and coming out in the fourth with a blaze of form.

Tin Can Bay closed out the final set and clinched victory 25:19 but had to hold strong against a valiant Woodies, throwing everything they had into hopes of staging a comeback.

A key player for Tin Can Bay was Harry Long, who was rewarded for his efforts by being named Player of the Final.

Tin Can Bay featured an exciting blend of youth and experience and racing to grand final glory largely hinged on the team’s ability to work in unison.

Spectator to the epic battle between both finalists, Deanne Biddle, congratulated the teams on producing an electrifying clash.

“Tin Can Bay were too good on the night,” she said.

“Congratulations to both teams on a hard fought final.”
