Time to break out winter woollies
AS SCHOOL students throughout the Gympie region count down the days to their winter school holidays next week, the weather is expected to stay fairly typical of June: cool nights and mornings and fairly clear days.
The region should enjoy a mostly sunny weekend with mild mornings of 8-10 degrees today and tomorrow before the minimum starts to head south again on Monday.
Yesterday morning was a cool 6 degrees and Monday morning is tipped to drop back down to 6 degrees, with Tuesday morning even slightly colder on 5 degrees.
The lowest temperature so far this month was a fairly mild 5.6 degrees last Tuesday, June 7, but the lowest June temperature on record was a brisk -3.3 degrees back in 1971.
Gympie's average minimum temperature for the first month of winter is 10.3 degrees.
As we move further into winter during the school holidays the average minimum temperature usually drops down closer to 6 degrees, when the winter woollies will be in constant demand.
